A Gents 1920s Silver Wrist Watch

A gents 1920s silver wrist watch.

The watch has a hand-winding movement which is working nicely and keeping good time to within around three minutes over 24 hours. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 32.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the very charming articulated lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1924 with a sponsor’s mark (or importer’s mark) for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in good condition with just a slight indentation to the hinged case back.

The acrylic lens is in good condition.

The white enamel dial has some faint hairline cracks running down the centre. The dial is signed although it is difficult to read, probably the name and address of the original retailer.

A later black leather strap has been fitted.
