The Fancy Fox has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Far from the usual plain squared box, the curved lines could be Edwardian or classic art deco and very tactile. A very good quality box with a gilt interior rather than the usual wood, marked inside top and bottom . Hallmarked for London 1840.

It measures 5 3/4" long, 3 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" deep. It weighs a substantial 296g/9.5ozt. Condition is excellent with no damage or dents and very light surface wear for age and use, a little more as expected on the lower surface. The gilding is also very good.
