18th C Coconut Cup with Silver Mount

Description

An 18th Century Silver Mounted Coconut Cup.

The rim with a silver mount, with horizontal ring detail to the top and bottom. The bottom finished with a chased leaf edge. the coconut body carved, named and dated. The top of the body carved 'CHRISTIAN GRAY, 26TH AUGUST 1766'. The rest of the coconut with panels radiating intertwined circles with flower head detail, surrounded by a background of hobnail carving, and triangular block work. The cup resting on the silver stem, with a ring and knob profile, above a domed foot, with sloping gadroon decoration, and a flat ring edge.

Hallmarked for IP James Phipps, London.
