Description

Fabulous George Jones majolica sardine box with integrated tray and cover. Pretty turquoise ground over a basket weave texture, trimmed with ochre rims and moulded green reeds to each corner. The lid is smothered with overlapping green reeds and with a nicely modelled sardine sitting on top. The inside is a contrasting pink ground and the base has the classic marbled finish with a full set of impressed marks for c.1875.

It measures 4" high, and 8" by 7 1/4" wide. Condition is very good, there are a couple of tiny paint losses to the corners of the tray and even crazing over the whole piece. No damage or restoration.
