18th Century Mahogany Adjustable Candle-stand

Description

A very fine and utterly original late 18th century mahogany ADJUSTABLE CANDLE-STAND (or torchere) of lovely warm and original colour.

The solid octagonal top features a lipped edge and is supported on a well-turned central column leading to good tripod cabriole legs and pad feet. To the top of the column is a wooden screw which releases an inner column that allows the candle-stand to be increased by about 10 inches. 31ins high (unextended) the top 10.5ins x 10.5ins. (79cms high; the top 27cms wide). Remarkably good original condition.
