18th Century London Verge Bracket Clock

Description

John Berry, LONDON: a good quality mid/late 18th century verge BRACKET CLOCK in full working order.

The ebonised case features a typical cast brass carrying handle to the bell top; silk-backed spandrels to the front door; good mouldings to the arched front door glazing and original bracket feet.

The 8-day verge movement strikes hours on a bell, whilst the good dial with its engraved and silvered chapter rings, has twin subsidiary dials (for "Strike/Silent" and pendulum regulation); mock pendulum and date aperture above "VI". It is signed both to the dial and to the well-engraved backplate. 18.5ins high excluding the handle. (47 cms.)
