Georgian Longcase Clock, Deacon, Barton

Description

A Georgian oak longcase clock. An architectural pediment with central brass finial. Brass capped hood columns. A long trunk door with re-entrant top moulding. A circular painted dial with bird in flowers and a date aperture. A 30 hour mechanism of unusual design striking the hours on a bell.

Samuel Deacon (1746-1816) is a very well documented clockmaker who made unusual mechanisms and usually numbered and dated them. His workshop is in Leicester Museum. This example is dated to the mechanism November 1780, number 177.

Height 6ft 11 1/2 " / 213 cms.
