Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the Regency era.
It has a drop in seat which has been newly recovered in a grey satin fabric. Solid and sturdy, although it has an old mend to the leg and to the back (see photos) would make a wonderful desk chair. Dating from circa 1835.

Solid and sturdy however, it has an old mend to the leg where it has broken off and been glued back on. Also mends to the back (see photos). Wear and marks commensurate with age. Newly recovered over existing horsehair upholstery which is sound.
