Large 19th C Imari Charger

1900 - 1920
Description

A huge and impressive 19th Century Imari charger, the gently-dished body intensely decorated with a sea shore scene. A large lobster, two langoustine, and with turtles foraging amongst seaweed, mussel shells, conches, and sea snails. In the background the land rises up to towered buildings set on a hill with flags flying; the houses set amongst trees. The whole in a vibrant Imari palette with gilt highlighting.
