A very decorative Chinese black ground marriage chest. The front having a typical Chinese scene with pagodas, trees, figures and water all in raised and gilded lacquer. The brass escutcheon plate in the form of a rising sun and all set within a scrolling gilded border. The top having similar decoration with seated Chinese character and junks. The lid is removable and opens to a useful storage area. The sides with conforming decoration and the whole standing on 4 short legs.
