Carved Oak Hall Seat by Edwards & Roberts C.1890.

Description

Superb quality late 19th.c. carved oak box settle or hall seat by the acclaimed English cabinet makers Edwards & Roberts c.1890. Three panel backrest carved with scenes of a man travelling by cart, boat and on horseback, carved and pierced arms in the form of a lion with further floral detail, plus scrolling leaf pattern across the front of the base at the centre of which is a classical mask wearing a laurel wreath. Hinged seat with useful storage below and unusual exposed pegged mortice and tenon joints at the sides. Stamped on the front rail below the lid. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
