Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 1920s and Art Deco era, silver-mounted glass vanity pots featuring tortoiseshell lids were standard dressing table accessories. Designed to hold cosmetics, pins, or small items, these objects reflected the prevailing decorative trends and vanity culture of the early 20th century.

These vanity pots combine lead crystal or cut glass with hallmarked sterling silver collar mounts. The fitted lids are typically made from polished natural tortoiseshell, sometimes featuring inlaid silver pique work or plain domed profiles.

Authenticity is verified through British hallmarks stamped into the silver mount, which indicate the purity grade, assay office mark, makers mark, and date letter. Authentic glass bases feature wheel-etched or hand-cut detailing rather than modern cast seams.

Position the box on a bedside table, bathroom counter, or dressing table tray for holding small jewellery pieces. The combination of glass, silver, and dark tortoiseshell offers textural contrast when displayed alongside contemporary stone, wood, or ceramic surfaces.

Wipe the glass vessel with a dampened cloth using mild liquid detergent, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. Polish the silver rim using a dedicated silver polishing cloth, and clean the tortoiseshell lid gently using a dry microfibre cloth to prevent moisture damage.
