Oversized Antique Brass and Malachite Mounted Coromandel Box C.1860

Description

This is a first and I have had thousands of boxes pass through my hands over the years. If it were significantly shorter, it would have been described as a glove box. Made from exotic polished Coromandel, the box is mounted with cast brass straps set with cabochon Malachite stones.

There is a possibility that this was made for very long gloves but more likely it was custom made for another purpose as it does measure 19 1/2" in length.

Dating to around 1860, it remains in excellent condiiton. 19 1/2" x 5" x 3 1/2" tall.
