An excellent example of a solid sterling silver First World War pin cushion, fashioned in the iconic red cross.
Hallmarked clearly on the side for S Blanckensee & Sons Ltd, the pin cushion also carries a patent number.
The circular base is weighted and the sides are stepped upwards towards the central cross. The fabric in the cushion is rough to the touch - I imagine somebody has tried to clean it. The silver is in very good condition. There are a few dings to the base, but no tears or splits. The pin cushion is not gilded - any suggestion of gilding in the pictures is just a reflection of the camera flash, as are any shadows.
