Small George III Mahogany Chest of Drawers with Original Brassware C. 1760

18th century
Description

This handsome mahogany chest of drawers was made in around 1760 and is solid mahogany with oak lined drawers and many fine quality details including a deeply crossbanded boarder to the top with stepped ogee outline, beautiful reeded columns to either flank and substantial ogee bracket feet. The brass handles and escutcheons are original and all locks are present and appear original also.

.

At only 3 feet wide and having a lovely well developed colour, the chest has beautifully small proportions yet offers lots of storage space in very strong oak lined and dovetailed drawers.

.

This chest is over 250 years old and like all antique furniture it has had a life and has some minor marks and wear as follows: a small dark mark to the top on the front left hand corner, some old shrinkage cracks to the top and one to the right hand side panel (due to natural movement in the wood over the centuries, very old and not going anywhere).

.

The chest came from a private address and has been very well cared for. The handles have been cleaned regularly over the years with brasso giving them a lovely soft appearance and colour but causing a darker halo to the mahogany around the handles which is noticeable in our photos but less so ‘in the flesh’.

.

A lovely and very good quality chest, English, and made by hand by a City based craftsman. In very good original condition and of a most desirable small size at just 36 inches wide.

.

.

Dimensions are:

.

Width is 36 inches, depth is 18.5 inches and height is 31.25 inches.

.

The top drawer is 3 inches deep, the second is 4.25 inches, the third is 5.75 inches and the bottom drawer is 6.25 inches deep.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
