The rise and fall section opens using a secret button located in the lower writing compartment drawer. The front of serpentine shape having a "piano" style hinged front, opens to reveal a leather adjustable writing surface retaining the original green and gold tooled Moroccan leather insert and with a further two rectangular walnut drawers, pen tray and inkwell compartments. The knee hole having a beautifully figured burr walnut panel flanked by reeded columns and carved supports. The right hand side having a shaped panelled and hinged door opening to reveal four satin birch mahogany lined drawers with gilded brass handles, sledge feet and brass and porcelain castors. The reverse is also veneered in the finest burr walnut showing the quality of this davenport. English circa 1880
