Antique Chopard Pocket Watch, Circa 1910s

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Chopard pocket watch, circa 1910s.

Louis-Ulysse Chopard set up a manufacturing company in Switzerland in 1860 and canvassed for customers in Eastern Europe, Russian and Scandinavia. He also supplied watches to Tzar Nicholas II of Russia.

This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement and the inside of the case are stamped with a lion logo, this could well be the stamp of the original retailer of the watch. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved with details of the movement.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. It originally had a galonne case which means it is .800 silver with a rose gold wash to the bezel and the edge of the case back but there are only traces of this wash left now as most of it has worn off over the years, leaving a predominantly silver case. There is some engraved detail to the back of the watch but that has rubbed.

The watch glass has a couple of short scratches.

The white enamel dial has some damage at number 2. The ornate pin-set hands are a beautiful feature of this watch. Also a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track with numbers.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
