Stunning Georgian Tea Caddy - 1762

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Silver Cabinet

A wonderful example of an 18th Century Tea Caddy.

Hallmarked on the base for London 1762. The maker''s mark is slightly rubbed but I believe it is ''J*G'', which I can''t identify but have found on another caddy of a similar age.

Of baluster form, the caddy is lavishly decorated with embossed and fluted flowers and leaves. There is a small family crest of three birds'' heads and the finial features a bird holding a flower.

The pull off lid is tight and the circular foot is stands flat. The silver is in excellent condition. It is not gilded - any suggestion of gilding in the pictures is just a reflection of the camera flash.
