This is a rare and very beautiful shell-shaped, solid silver jewellery or trinket box. It sits on four feet with an embossed and pierced floral design while the lid is engaved with a pattern which calls to mind a shell or peacock''s tail feathers. The interior of the lid is gilded while the bottom is lined with beige velvet. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1919. It bears a maker''s mark which is unfortunately rather too rubbed to be legible.CONDITION (see photos)This box is in good condition: there are no dents or dings and just minimal superficial scratching or cleaning marks. The hinge works well. The gilded interior is in good condition as is the velvet lining, which just shows a few dirt marks.
