Lovely George III Silver Beer Mug Whipham & Wright 1766 Tankard

Description

Very nice early George III solid silver beer mug of classic baluster form with stepped collet foot and double scroll handle with thumb rest. Hallmarked for London 1766 with maker's mark for Thomas Whipham II & Charles Wright (in the preceding line of Edward Barnard). It has a very attractive gilt interior which may be later, and a well placed engraved inscription under the base dated 1938.

It measures 12cm (4 3/4") high, 12.5cm (5") rim to handle, 8.5cm (3 3/8") across the foot and 8cm (3 1/8") across the rim. It weighs 298g/9.6ozt and it carries 480ml, just under a pint (17 fl.oz). Condition is excellent with no dents and very little surface wear.
