Impressive London Mahogany Longcase Clock

18th century
Description

An impressive, completely original and very fine quality mid/late 18th century mahogany LONGCASE CLOCK by Stephen Gibbs of Lombard Street, LONDON.

The typically fine case features a pagoda pediment surmounted by urn finials; fretwork panel to the centre; brass-inlaid columns to the hood and matching brass-inlaid columns flanking the long well-figured arched-top door. Double plinth base with figured panel to the centre.

The 8-day movement strikes hours on a bell, with "Strike/Silent" in the arch and date aperture above "VI".. Good brass dial; original hands and signed to the cartouche. Original brass-cased weights and pendulum ~ overall a lovely colour and patina.
