C1900 Large Tripod Artists Easel Windsor&newton Ltd London

1900 - 1920
Description

A well used true artist's large wooden easel, made by the famous London maker "Windsor & Newton Ltd London", from c1890 to 1910.

Winsor & Newton (W&N) is a company based in London, that manufactures a wide variety of fine art products. The company was founded in 1832 by William Winsor and Henry Newton. The firm was originally located at Henry Newton's home in 38 Rathbone Place, London. This was then part of an artists' quarter in which a number of eminent painters, including Constable, had studios, and other colourmen were already established. A few months before his death in 1882, Henry Newton sold the business to the newly incorporated firm of "Winsor & Newton Ltd.", which included members of both families amongst the shareholders.

This easel had been in the same family for 3 generations since the turn of the c20th century till their recent estate sale.

Very large, all joints adjustable with the original metal butterflies. Can be extended to over 3 metres. Tripod legs are fully adjustable to any angle you need.

Decades of paint crusts add to the charm, which we have left on.

Delivery within mainland UK is £45 due to its size. Collection is welcome from Chesterfield, 5 mins off junction 29 of M1.

"Heritage Quality Without the High Street Mark-up"

Hodgson Antiques (www.hodgsonantiques.co.uk) has been in the antique trade and dealing independently since 2012. Based in Derbyshire countryside operating solely online, we specialise in antique and vintage lighting, table lamps, ceiling lights, chandeliers, wall lights and lanterns together with some selectively sourced decorative items. We source items from around the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

We believe that acquiring exceptional, fully restored period lighting shouldn't require paying premium high-street showroom prices. By operating entirely online and focusing our resources into our own dedicated restoration workshop, we have completely reimagined the traditional antique gallery model. We have a significant structural pricing advantage over traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts, which enables us to offer the exact high quality and meticulous restoration you find in the high street showrooms – delivered directly from our workshop at transparent competitive trade prices passing substantial savings onto our customers.

All our antique lights are fully overhauled, professionally cleaned, rewired and PAT tested to UK standards ready for installation. They are supplied with period-style matching aged fixing brass screws, fittings.

Our lighting is safely wrapped in heavy-duty protective packaging and dispatched the next day via premium tracked courier within mainland UK (delivery charge applies at checkout). As an independent workshop, we highly appreciate direct bank transfers (BACS). If you prefer to pay directly via bank transfer, we will happily waive the delivery fee as a thank you. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
