Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the 1880s.
To the interior it has its original fittings with tooled leather lettering of different types of music. A very decorative and good quality piece with makers label: “Marris & Norton”. Dating from circa 1880.

Marris & Norton advertised themselves as “Manufacturers of superior cabinet furniture” and had showrooms at 26,27 & 28 Bull St, Birmingham in the late 19th Century.

Ebonised wood and Amboyna (burl of the exotic South East Asian hardwood Narra)

Condition Report:
Wear and marks commensurate with age. Some of the beading decoration is missing in places and a few small splits and cracks to the surface. Key works but is quite stiff.
