Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The pistol itself is of engraved steel, with a screw-off barrel of considerable calibre ~ hence its ability to presumably stop a man in his tracks! It has a solid walnut stock and when cocked, the trigger descends to enable it to be used. A formidable weapon ~ possibly Irish?
