Clerk: English 'Domestic' Wall Regulator

Description

An attractive and excellent quality mid-19th century ENGLISH 'DOMESTIC' WALL REGULATOR in perfect working order.

The case is of well-figure mahogany, with glazed door and sides and a well-carved frieze above its lower carved pediment. The good eight-day weight-driven timepiece movement features deadbeat escapement and Harrison's maintaining power, whilst the original painted dial is signed: Clerk, 1 Royal Exchange, LONDON. About 36ins (91cms) high overall.

*There are a number of London clockmakers named Clerk most of whom were related. Their major workshop premises was at No. 1 Royal Exchange, where George Clerk started circa 1805.
