Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the 1800s.
It has a drop in seat which has been newly recovered in an embroidered linen fabric with designs of birds and foliage in lilac on a stone ground. In beautiful faux-rosewood painted finish, solid and sturdy, would make a wonderful desk chair. Dating from circa 1835.

Good condition. Solid and sturdy. Wear and marks commensurate with age. Newly recovered over existing horsehair upholstery which is sound.
