An excellent solid sterling silver salt spoon assayed at the Newcastle Assay Office, which closed in 1883, making Newcastle silver increasingly hard to get hold of.
 
The hallmarks are crisp and clear for 1871, with the maker''s mark for Thomas Sewell I.
 
In a classic fiddle shape with engraved finial. There is no gilding left on the bowl of the spoon.
