Museum Quality French Inlaid Jewellery Cabinet C.1850 - Maria

19th century
Sold by Puckerings
Description

One of the most exquisite jewelry boxes or cabinets I have ever had, a rare find dating to around 1850. French in origin and made from exotic and expensive Rosewood, the cabinet is beautifully shaped, quite outstanding.

The box is smothered in the most exceptional quality inlay, comprising of Mother of Pearl, Abalone shell, cut and engraved brass and pewter. This was clearly a bespoke box for a very grand family with the centre of lid inlaid with the name " Maria ".

The cabinet comes with a working lock and key and once opened, the magnificent inlay is revealed to the front of the three drawers each with a gilded pull (it looks like the top one has had to be replaced, done very well and some time ago). The lid lifts to reveal a mirror to the interior of the lid. The top section has a shaped tray which can be removed.

Each of the drawers retains the original custom made removable quilted silk pads, quite exceptional.

Magnificent and impressive in every way. 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 9 1/2".

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
