Puckerings has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
These letter collection boxes date back to a more civilized time, when letters in a grand house would be placed in the caddy, collected by a member of the household staff to either be taken to the Post Office or hand-delivered.

Dating to around 1890, it remains in excellent condition measuring 9 3/4" x 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" tall to the top of the rear shaped panel.
