Superb Antique English Mother of Pearl and Abalone Scent Bottle Box C.1860

Description

Pretty as a picture, this wonderful square perfume casket or box is smothered with Mother of Pearl tiles with it's iridescent qualities showcased by a bright and shiny patina. The rim of the lid is decorated with highly decorative Abalone shell, a beautiful contrast.

The lid is mounted with a silver mount which would have been used to engrave initials, this is untouched and vacant with the front having a shaped silver escutcheon which houses the working key.

The box stands on four original little feet. The lid opens to reveal a totally original interior, lined with blue velvet and silk. The four original bottles are made from cut crystal, each with a gilded metal screw cap.

A lovely original box in excellent condition, dating to the Victorian era, around 1860. 2 5/8" square x 2 1/2" tall; each bottle measuring 1" square x 1 5/8" tall.
