Description

A large Late 19th Century French mahogany and brass inlaid partners desk by Au Gros Chene, Rue Drouet, Paris. The rectangular solid mahogany top having an inset black gilt and blind tooled leather writing surface with a brass mounted edge and sliding secretary sections with further black leather surfaces. Each side having rectangular oak lined drawers, solid mahogany drawer fronts with inlaid brass moulded detail and a brass escutcheon. The desk is identical on both sides. The pedestals having brass inlaid fluted pilasters and a solid mahogany plinth again with brass moulded detail. The whole raised on four turned bun feet. French circa 1890-1900

Dimensions: 63" wide x 47" deep x 30" high (knee hole 24" high x 25" wide)

Condition: This desk is in excellent original condition, a wonderful warm colour and patina. Cleaned and waxed. Four of the brass inlaid fluted sections have been restored, where they were formally brass inlaid they have been gilded to simulate brass inlay.
