19th Cent. Victorian Chrome & Cast Iron Multi-Fuel
This is a very nice Victorian stove c.1880.
The stove is cast with a floral design and chromed trimmings. The stove has at the front an oval window in glass and chrome for day time use and a more closed one in cast iron and with a small mica window for night time use. The opening of these oval windows is approx.11.5 Inches x 9.75 Inches or 29 x 25 cm.
The stove also has two functions, the first function is to heat the room as a normal stove, the second function is more elaborate, when connected up at the back of the stove, the base of the stove can use the surplus heat of the stove to be warmed up, in the Victorian day's one put his shoes/slippers and or socks, on the base of the stove to be warmed up in winter time, by putting or hanging them on the chrome rail at the front of the base. The stove has at the top a filling opener with lid and topped with a decorative lid. On that filler opening one could heat a kettle or pan. The diameter of the filler opening is 6 Inches or 15.5 cm. At the front of the stove above the ash tray, there are two riddling handles with chrome knobs, and the ash tray is behind a decorative cast iron lid with a chrome knob. The base has, as mentioned, a chrome detachable rail and stands on four chrome feet. At the back there is at the top a 4.5 Inch or 11.5 cm.outlet and at the bottom there is an outlet contraption for the base (as mentioned before) with an opening of 4.5 Inches or 11.5 cm. There is also a steel shutter if one doesn't want to use the contraption. Both outlets come with the original Victorian heat regulators with chrome handles. A original small chromed poker comes with the stove.
There is some slight fly rust here and there, this will disappear by using graphite fire polish Zebo (we did not put it on, as it will stain goods whilst in transit).
Height approx. 39 Inches or 99 cm.
Width of the base with rail approx. 42 Inches or 106.5 cm.
Depth approx. 30 Inches or 76 cm (with contraption) or 22 Inches or 56 cm. (with out contraption)
The stove is in full working order and takes wood and coal as fuel.
The stove comes completely apart for transport.
