Description

A lovely all original 19th Century "Optical Diagonal Machine".

In total original condition with a ring of lead to the base.

These instruments were very popular from about 1750 for viewing "Perspective Views" (Vues D'Optique) which were specially prepared prints; typically topographical images. The prints were designed to provide strong architectural perspective, which was significantly enhanced when viewed through this simple yet ingenious machine, producing an "almost" three d.
