Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1850s.
This lid opens to reveal the well-fitted interior with eleven silver-topped bottles; jars and implements, including a good three-piece shaving brush, all of which are fully hallmarked and engraved with a Stags Head Coat of Arms. There is an easel mirror in the lid and the full set of four brushes within the base.
Signed by the makers (Mechi) and complete with original Bramah key. Hallmarked for London 1859
