Ww1 Era Silver Trench Watch, 1915

A WW1 era silver trench watch.

The watch has an AS (Adolph Schild) hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The Schild family set up one of the first ébauche factories in Grenchen. Ébauches are bare watch movements to be finished by another factory. In 1896, Adolph set up A Schild & Cie with the aim of making good quality ébauches but with parts that were interchangeable. The company won awards for their designs and supplied various watch manufacturing companies including the renowned Harwood.

This particular watch measures 32.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London (import mark), 1915 with a sponsor’s (or importer’s) mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

Both the case and the lens are in good condition.

The watch has a white enamel dial which is in very nice condition. The hands would originally have had infill but this has fallen out, or been removed, over the years.

A new black leather strap has been fitted.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
