Elmgarden has dated this piece to the 18th Century.

The Cassone has 3 tree of life carved panels these are decorated with substantial Geometric Mouldings, it stands on a deep moulded plinth
The lid has large Key Hole on the top and an Iron Escutcheon, when the lid is closed the box is locked. There is a very elaborate iron work on the underside of the lid, the hinges, handles and lock were probably made by a gunsmith, they are decorated and in full working order, and there is a candle box inside, and of course we have the key
The cassone is 54” long, 22” deep and 27” high
