An Antique Silver Fusee Pocket Watch, 1864

An antique silver fusee pocket watch.

The watch has a fusee, or chain driven, movement which is working well and keeping good time to within around five minutes over 24 hours. The movement has the serial number 8679 which is also repeated on the dial. It is protected by a fitted inner cover.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London 1864 with a case maker’s mark for the Clerkenwell (London) based John Hammon. The case has some rubbing to the detailing on the back of the case but overall it is in good condition for such an early piece.

The watch glass has a few small marks but is in very acceptable condition.

The white enamel dial has a hairline crack radiating up from the centre towards number 11 and a couple of very faint short hairlines beneath the subsidiary seconds dial but they are particularly difficult to see. There are two little nibbles to the centre.
