Victorian Silver Pocket Watch, Fattorini, 1899

An antique Victorian silver pocket watch from Fattorini & Sons of Bradford.

The Fattorini family were well known in the watch trade. The company was established in 1827 by Antonio Fattorini and his four youngest sons subsequently ran the three branches in Skipton, Bradford and Harrogate. These three branches went on to become run independently of each other and they then became the future inheritance of the sons concerned.

This particular watch has a key-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed Fattorini & Sons, Bradford. A winding key is included.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for Chester 1899 with the maker’s mark for Fattorini & Sons. The front of the case is in good condition. The back has a couple of indentations and some rubbing to the engine turned detail.

The inner cover has scratches and marks where a previous owner has tried to gain access to the movement… the movement actually hinges out of the front of the case.

The watch glass has minor marks but is very acceptable.

The white enamel dial has two or three very faint short hairline cracks. To the naked eye, the dial looks very good.
