Shell Carved Walnut Stool

1900 - 1920
Description

An elegant stool in walnut with shell carved cabriole legs. With scalloped top, standing on cabriole legs culminating in bawl and claw feet, with shell carved knees. Wonderful colour and patina to the walnut, the drop in seat has been recovered in an embroidered linen fabric with designs of birds and foliage in lilac on a stone ground. It is very solid and sturdy. Some small pieces of veneer missing in places (see photos).

Solid and sturdy. Newly recovered over existing upholstery which is sound. A few small sections of veneer missing and split in places. Other wear commensurate with age.
