George III Silver Coffee Pot London 1817 Samuel Knight Georgian

18th century
Description

Stunning George III silver baluster coffee pot with carved scroll form ivory handle. Elegant shape with later embossed flowers highlighted with bright cut engraving around the belly and neck of the pot and lid and the latter with a pretty flower bud knop. The handle has elaborate stylised acanthus leaf and scrolled decoration and a similar engraved band runs around the foot. Hallmarked for London 1817; the maker's mark is partially obscured but I think it is that of Samuel Knight. There is a rubbed lion passant mark to the flange inside the lid and also to the slim band around the handle.

It measures 11" high, 5" across the body and 8 1/2" handle to spout. It weighs 937g/33oz/30ozt. It has an easy 2 pint capacity.

Condition is very good with no damage or dents. Surface wear is very light in the main, a bit more so around the rim of the foot. There is a small, lightly engraved crest on one side of a heron.
