Unusual Ww1 Gents Half Hunter Silver Trench Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

An unusual WW1 gents half hunter silver trench watch, a Swiss watch made for the British market.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around five minutes over 24 hours which is respectable for a watch of its vintage.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks for Glasgow (import mark), 1915 with a sponsor’s mark for James Wear who was a Glasgow based watch manufacturer, chronometer maker to the Admiralty, jeweller and silversmith. The case is in good condition for its age with just some surface scratches to the front and the case back is a screw-on fitting which is always a nice sign of quality.

The front cover is opened by pressing the button between the bottom lugs - sometimes it needs a little help with a fingernail. The small lens is plastic and it is in good condition. The inner lens is glass and also in nice condition.

The white enamel dial is in lovely condition and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.

A later black leather strap has been fitted.
