Antique English Silver Plated Cherub Inkwell by Elkington and Co. - 1848

About as adorable as they get, this fabulous Victorian inkwell featuring a Cherub or Putti figure with a cart holding a basket of flowers, is made by the creme de la creme of English silversmiths, Elkington and Co.

The inkwell stands on four revolving wheels, enabling one to roll across the desk top, really for novelty value, so very popular during the Victorian era.

Made from English silver plate, the cast basket of flowers is made from brass, creating a wonderful contrast to the silver. Being Elkington we are able to date the piece accurately with the number 8 punched inside the lozenge for the year 1848, a good early example of Elkington.

Fabulous in every way and in superb condition. 5" in length x 4 3/4" tall.
