Victorian Minton Majolica the Shakespeare Jug Pitcher 1864

Description

Fabulous large Victorian majolica pitcher by Minton known as "The Shakespeare Jug", made to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth in 1564. Lovely design with stylised overlapping scallop shapes and decorative bands of yellow and green and a frieze around the centre giving the details of the event. It also has a cameo of Shakespeare's profile on the front and 2 reserves to the handle terminals, one ER for Elizabeth I and the other VR for Victoria.

It measures 10 3/4" high and 6" wide. Fully marked to the base including the date code for 1864. Condition is excellent.
