Georgian Mahogany Fusee Bracket Clock Sowter, London.

19th century
Description

An English Georgian fusee bracket clock. An arched top with moulded edging and cast carrying handle. Glass fronted panels with fine fretwork and silk backed. Fish scale side fretwork. A mahogany case of good colour and patina standing on ogee bracket feet. A convex glass to the cast brass bezel and painted dial with diamond blued steel hands. An 8-day duration timepiece fusee mechanism with shaped plate shoulders.

John Sowter of London is recorded in Loomes' 'Watch and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1810-1818 in London and then worked in Oxford from 1818.
