London Fine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1700s.
This is an English oak refectory table dating to c.1700
Beneath, the bulbous turned legs are united by an 'H' stretcher with the centre rail doubling as a foot rest.

The carved frieze features scrolls and foliate detail appearing on one side of the table only; a trait that still divides opinion as to whether these tables were originally designed to be side tables or whether they were placed on a raised dais with the frieze facing the room leaving ample leg room behind for dignitaries to be seated.

Superb example and a stunning piece presented in good antique condition. Solid joints and construction. Delivered waxed & polished ready for the home.
