Description

A Victorian silver pocket watch by Rees Bevan, of 58 Hannah Street, Porth.

The watch has a key-winding movement which is working nicely and the time keeping is good to within around two minutes over 24 hours. The signed movement is protected by an inner fitted cover. A winding key is included.

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Chester 1887, with a case maker’s believed to be for the Coventry based silversmith John Hawley. There is some gentle unevenness to the hinged case back but overall the case is in good condition.

The watch glass has a small chip to the edge, and some short marks commensurate with its age but overall very acceptable for such an early piece.

The white enamel dial has a faint hairline crack running between 12 and 2, and a couple of short faint hairlines on the subsidiary seconds dial.
