Daniel Katterns, Thrapston Longcase Clock

Description

A well proportioned Northamptonshire Georgian small 'cottage' longcase clock. An oak case with a flat moulded hood pediment. Unusual carved hood blind fretwork. Tapered and turned hood front and rear columns. A shaped trunk door with choice grain. An 11" square brass and silvered dial with corner spandrels. An original single handed dial and engraved to the dial centre by maker. A 30 hour mechanism striking the hours on a bell.

Daniel Katterns of Thrapston was apprenticed to John Giscard of Thrapston in 1738. He was a maker in his own right from 1765-1790.
