John Tiplady - Oil on Board - Superb Portofino Harbour, Italy

1940 - 1960
Description

John Tiplady - Oil on Board - The Harbour Portofino, Italy an impressionistic view. Portofino is an Italian fishing village and vacation resort famous for its picturesque harbour and historical association with celebrity and artistic visitors.

Born in England in 1938, John Tiplady left for Australia as a young man, where his artistic ability, first showing itself with a musical leaning and evident from a young age, was able to develop. With hard work and persistence he was able to have his first one-man show in Sydney in 1973. In the same year he returned to Europe for a study tour and saw at first hand the work of the French Impressionists whose work he so admired and which so inspired him.

During a four-month period working in the UK and Europe he successfully exhibited in London and the provinces, including participation in the prestigious exhibitions of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Society of Oil Painters at the Mall Gallery in London. John was also elected an Associate of the British Society of Painters.

He settled in South Australia, and his career continued to flourish. John was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, S.A. and served a term as a Vice-President.

During the past 30 years he has held numerous solo exhibitions in every state of Australia and shown in mixed exhibitions in Japan and Italy. He has also had work exhibited at the RSMA show at the Mall Gallery, and has been the recipient of many prestigious art prizes.

John says it is his intention to paint an interpretation of visual impressions of lighting conditions, mood or even a moment in time, stating on canvas enough to create the atmosphere, whilst leaving a little for the imagination of the viewer to be involved in the picture.

John is represented in the book Australian Realist and Impressionist Artists and, from this exposure, is now exhibiting in Italy, the UK and Tokyo.
