An Antique 1917 Longines Pocket Watch

An antique 1917 Longines pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, 18.69N, which is ticking away nicely and the time keeping is good to within around three minutes over 24 hours. The movement is signed with the Longines name and it also has the serial number 3,529,745 which dates it back to 1917.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is nickel and it is in good condition with just minor marking. The case has screw-on bezel and case back which is a nice sign of quality. The inside of the case back has the EF&Co for Ernest Francillon, the founder of Longines.

The watch glass has a few inconsequential marks.

The white enamel dial is signed Longines, Nacib K Djezvedjian & Son, Constantinople. Djezvedjian would have been the original high class retailer of the watch who specialised in quality brands as well as Longines, such as Vacheron & Constantin. The dial is in very nice condition with just one short hairline crack between 7 and 8. Blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
