Lovely medullary rays to the quarter sawn oak and there are what appear to be early cut marks to one arm – from when the only cutlery used at the dinner table was a knife, which was wiped and cleaned on the edges of tables, fireplaces and chairs.
The settle is peg joined and very sturdy with no loose joints or creaks. Waxed finish. The twin plank seat original also.
Wear, knocks and bruises consistent with age and use. The seat and back rails with double channel carved detailing.
A stunning early English settle made by hand and made so well that it has survived in excellent condition for 400 years or more and has a very long life ahead of it.
